The Restored Gospel & Christian History Lesson 23 & 24

THE FAMILY

A PROCLAMATION TO THE WORLD

"WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children."

According to the The Family proclamation, what do you think the significance's of family is to God?

Salvation is for us individually, however, to be exalted, live with God we are exalted in families.

Our purpose on earth is fulfilled in our families and we belong to an eternal family, and the Savior has provided a way for us to be with our families forever.

This year, on April 13, 2017, I was sealed to my parents. It was an occasion I will forever remember. President Guenther and Sister Guenther were proxies for my parents, and I tenderly thought of my parents as we knelt at the alter, and the sealer through proper authority sealed me to my parents.

Families are not perfect. Each of us come from different backgrounds and unique circumstances. I don't know all about how our family life will be like in the eternities, however, I know that our Savior, Jesus Christ cares about us individually and about our families. He can heal our family relationships. We all will be resurrected one day and our minds will be healed our imperfections forgotten if we have repented. Repentance is eternal and we will continue to progress. I know my own family was not perfect and we experienc
ed heart ache, and distress. I made lots of mistakes in my own family and hope my children despite my incorrect choices will know I love them and I know Christ can heal and guide them through this life. We need to forgive our family members for offensive acts, attitudes and behaviors. We need to assume they did their best, and some of the sorting out and healing will continue in the eternities.

I am grateful for a loving, forgiving Lord, who despite my faults gave me a loving family, and children to love. My God be thanked for his abundant blessings.

A favorite Primary song "The Family is of God" by Matthew Neeley has lyrics that reveal the love of family.

The Family Is of God (Friend)

1. Our Father has a family. It’s me!
It’s you, all others too: we are His children.
He sent each one of us to earth, through birth,
To live and learn here in fam’lies.

2. A father’s place is to preside, provide,
To love and teach the gospel to his children.
A father leads in fam’ly prayer to share
Their love for Father in Heaven.

3. A mother’s purpose is to care, prepare,
To nurture and to strengthen all her children.
She teaches children to obey, to pray,
To love and serve in the fam’ly.

4. I’ll love and serve my family and be
A good example to each fam’ly member.
And when I am a mom or dad, so glad,
I’ll help my fam’ly remember:

Chorus
God gave us families to help us become what He wants us to be—
This is how He shares His love, for the fam’ly is of God.
